Springtime Sun OOTD

What a glorious day in London Town today! London was bathed in sunshine from morning till evening, which made a very nice change from the usual doom and gloom. As usual though, some people got excited and were swanning around in short-shorts, string vests, and the like. Erm, it was sunny but it's not yet summer so calm down folks.

I went into uni for my morning lecture and I had to hand in my dissertation proposal today so I hope I have no problems there (fingers crossed).

I wore my ASOS cape which I had been coveting for aaaages before finally getting my hands on it. It was originally £75 but I did not have the desire (or the funds) to pay that much for it so I resigned myself to never having this cape. It also sold out insanely quickly, further depleting my hope. However, I was browsing the clearance section as usual when I saw this cape on sale for £18(£15 after my student discount)!!!! My fingers clicked "buy" before I could even draw breath. I didn't care that it was about 4 sizes too big for me at a size 26 as I was determined to make it work regardless. It is quite insanely big on me but I wear it with a belt most times and I can also make it work with it unbuttoned. I love, love, love it regardless and it keeps me very warm when I button it up.

I have a serious weakness for brogues and my canvas and (fake) leather ones from Primark made an appearance today. I've had them for a while but I haven't worn them too often for some reason. I think I'm worried that the white part will get dirty on the grimy London streets, as I have no way to clean them. Ah well, I'll enjoy them while I can.

Outfit

Military cape- ASOS Curve
"I love Paris" top- Primark
Dark wash jeggings- ASOS Curve
White and Tan Brogues- Primark
Necklace- H&M

Hope you all had a wonderful day and that you took advantage of the sunshine. This is London after all- we never know just how long it'll last!

Friday's Face

I popped out to see a friend and decided to try out "Antiqued". I worried that it'd be really dark but I think it really brightens up my eyes. I even had a couple of random people stop me on the street to ask what eyeshadow I was wearing (!). I could have blended my eyebrow highlighter in a bit more but I kinda love it. I added a couple of clip-in hair extensions and curled my hair with my Babyliss Curling Wand.

Last week, I got a sudden urge to find out what I would look like with a nose ring on. I've had my nose pierced for approximately 6 years now but I've never worn anything but a tiny stud in it. I've had a few funny looks from friends but I think I'm kind of digging it. I was bored and felt like a change, so why not? What do you think of it?

I'm on the fence about MAC's Face and Body foundation. I think it's way too sheer/ light for me and it's almost a step-up from a tinted moisturiser. It'll be great for the summer or for people who want very light coverage. I had to really pile on my Mineralize powder to feel like my skin looked even. Maybe I'll give it another go when my scars/ hyper pigmentation fade a little.

Mini MAC and Stila haul

I popped into MAC on Carnaby Street the other day to get a replacement for my Mineralise powder which had run out. I much prefer the MAC Pro shop on Carnaby Street as I feel that the Selfridges stand is always manic and the makeup artists always seem a little standoffish (maybe because they're so blooming busy). A quiet Wednesday afternoon was perfect to browse in peace. I'm not as obsessed with MAC as many people seem to be but I absolutely love their foundations. However, when it comes to eyeshadows I prefer the consistency of Urban Decay and Stila (see below). I think what MAC does better is provide such a wide range of makeup for all skin types; other companies would do well to take note.

I really wanted to try the Face and Body foundation so I asked for a sample and I picked up a couple of eyeshadows in 'Antiqued' and 'Ricepaper'.

The mineralize skinfinish natural in "Deep Dark" is my go to powder and I use it every day, either to set my liquid foundation, or I wear it alone for lighter coverage. I think it gives me a nice 'glow' without looking like I've showered in bronzer. Highly recommended.

I've been dying to try these eyeshadows for a while now and I'm really happy with them. I'll do a FOTD soon with these so I didn't swatch them.

I found these Stila eyeshadows on a clearance website for on 97p! Yep you read that right. Stila eyeshadow's usually go for around 12 quid so I couldn't believe my luck. I snagged the last of these in "Jezebel" (left) and "Twig" (right). I've been wanting to try Stila eyeshadows for a while since I love their smudge pots so this completely came at the right time. They're in a pan format so I may get an empty palette to put them in. Love, love, love them.

"Why don't you be the writer and decide the words I say?"

I've died and gone to heaven with these notebooks. I've been looking for a new journal  for ages and I initially had my heart set on a leather-bound one, but I fell in love with these at first sight in a random little boutique in South London. The lovely pinky-purple one hilariously says "I could've been a novel" and it's by Waldo Pancake. I've checked out the rest of their stuff and it's all in the same dry humour vein.

The second notebook is literary orgasmic; it's by Penguin and it's covered in the spines of old-school Penguin classics. Everybody who knows me knows that I adore books and these totally capture my essence. I've been meaning to do more writing and now I absolutely have no excuse. I'm a weirdo and I've decided to only write in my Penguin one with my fountain pen (don't ask). I'll feel more refined as I write complete and utter nonsense....

Asking me to pick my favourite novel is like asking a mother to pick her favourite child; I just can't do it! My reading habits change with my moods but some of my favourite/ most memorable novels are:

Pride and Prejudice- Jane Austen
The Handmaiden's Tale- Margaret Atwood
I Capture the Castle- Dodie Smith
Things Fall Apart- Chinua Achebe
Ender's Game- Orson Scott Card
The Kite Runner- Khaled Hosseini
Purple Hibiscus- Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

I could go on and on but let me stop here before things get out of hand. I adore classic literature and postcolonial literature (talk about being on opposite ends of the literary scale) but I will devour some Chick Lit whenever the mood strikes me! Life's too short to to be restrictive so I like to read whatever happens to interest me at the time. Sometimes it's heavy, sometimes it's fluff but as long as I'm reading I'm happy.

Hello to my new followers. What do you like to read (or write)? Don't be shy, I don't bite!

Quick OOTD

Gosh it's so hard to rope people into taking picture of you! Just as the sun was going down on a surprisingly sunny day in London, I grabbed a friend to snap a few quick pics of me. I hope South London enjoyed the impromptu photo shoot and hope you do too.

This was what I wore to uni and I wasn't in a heels mood so I wore my trusty white brogues from Office. I couldn't really capture the detailing on them as well as I wanted to but they have a really cool pattern on them.

I wear my fern-shaped ring pretty much all the time as I love it! I also wore my H&M stag ring and  a Louis Vuitton ring on my pinky I stole from my friend.

I love these jeans and I usually wear them with heels but I kinda like the casual way they look with flats too. They're about 2 sizes too big for me but you can't really tell as I have big thighs. However, they're way too big at the waist so I'm thinking of taking them somewhere to get them altered. I got them on sale for the bargain price of £9.00 so I didn't care that it wasn't even in my size!

Outfit

Peg-leg boyfriend jeans (ASOS Curve)
Cardigan (ASOS Curve)
Black top (Dorothy Perkins)
White Brogues (Office)
Snood (ASOS)
Headscarf (Primark)

Wraps 'R' Us

This is just a quick face of the day (FOTD) I put together sometime earlier in the week and I just thought I'd share. I've wanted a turban for ages but I wasn't prepared to pay the silly prices some places were asking for them so I decided to have a go at making one myself and it didn't turn out too badly if I may say so myself! I used a scarf from Primark I got not too long ago and I absolutely love it. It was only £3.00 but it's really good quality and it has a great classic, vintage look. I didn't want to go overboard on my makeup since I wanted to keep the attention on my turban so I stuck with simple eyes and a strong, red lip. Excuse the crappy iPod touch quality but it's handy for snapping quick pics on the go.
